We always try and get the best quality materials available for the time of year.
There are various types of materials that can be used
We personally prefer to use Hungarian water reed, as this is readily available, durable, easy to work with and provides a good finish. We have used Hungarian water reed for over 20 years.
We also are able to create and provide straw animals to complete the finish if required. The current trend is peacocks.
We also use Triticale Wheat straw which is grown in Devon, UK.
Like the water reed we tend to use a triticale which is a hybrid of wheat and rye. This is grown very traditionally with little or no artificial fertilisers especially for thatchers.
So if a clients preference would be to have wheat straw this would not be a problem.
